A Bit About Me
Hi and welcome! I’m Sam and I am a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia, and soon to be Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner. I specialize in gut health issues, endometriosis, PCOS, and chronic illnesses, while also equipped to support a wide range of health concerns and diet & lifestyle goals, from feeding picky eaters to optimizing your performance on your next backcountry adventure.
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition Dietetics from Western University and a Professional Master’s Diploma in Dietetics from Toronto Metropolitan University & Sunnybrook Hospital. Additionally, I’ve completed specialized training in the Low FODMAP Diet and IBS through Monash University, PCOS Nutrition through Dietitian Central, and I’m on track to complete certification in Integrative and Functional Nutrition by March 2025. I prioritize ongoing education for inclusive care, recently undertaking courses on indigenous safety and addressing weight stigma and bias.
Outside of CAYA, I operate a private practice dedicated to Gut Health and Women’s Health and hold a part-time position in the Complex Chronic Diseases Program at BC Women’s Hospital, supporting individuals with fibromyalgia and ME/CFS. I have also spent time working at BC Children’s Hospital helping families achieve healthy weights in a sustainable, non-diet fashion, and to overcome picky eating.
As someone who suffers with endometriosis, PCOS, and post-concussion syndrome, I personally understand the frustrations of dealing with a chronic illness and it’s become my mission to support those who feel overlooked by our healthcare system. My approach is collaborative, personalized, and non-judgmental. I meet you where you’re at and empower you to take charge of your health journey. My goal is to arm my clients with the most effective, science-based knowledge and help them build a toolbox to achieve their goals.
I believe in a root cause approach rather than focusing solely on symptom management. Recognizing that healing is a unique, multi-faceted journey, I’m honored to be part of the CAYA team, providing access to a supportive network of practitioners from various disciplines.
When not working you’ll find me curled up with a cup of tea some chocolate chips and a good book or exploring the backcountry through ski touring or hiking!
