Holter monitoring is a simple, non-invasive test that helps us better understand how your heart is functioning over time. It involves wearing a small, portable device — called a Holter monitor — that continuously records your heart’s activity, usually for 24 to 48 hours.

Unlike a standard ECG (electrocardiogram), which captures only a brief moment, Holter monitoring provides a longer-term view of your heart’s rhythm during your normal daily activities — including work, rest, and movement.

Why You Might Need Holter Monitoring

You may be referred for Holter monitoring if you’re experiencing:

  • Irregular heartbeats or palpitations
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Unexplained fainting
  • Fatigue or shortness of breath

It can also help:

  • Detect arrhythmias (irregular heart rhythms)
  • Monitor how well your heart medications are working
  • Assess your heart following a procedure or diagnosis

What to Expect:

  • Small, sticky electrodes will be gently placed on your chest and connected to the monitor.
  • You’ll wear the device discreetly under your clothing and carry on with your day as usual.
  • After the monitoring period, you’ll return the monitor so the data can be reviewed.

We are committed to providing care that respects your identity and lived experience. If you have any concerns or specific needs related to the monitoring process, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
