How Do Benefits Work and How to Use them?

Navigating Your Employee and Student Benefits with CAYA Health Centre! Use them before they run out!

CAYA Health Centre is a multidisciplinary medical and allied health clinic located in Vancouver, British Columbia. At CAYA, we understand the importance of prioritizing your health and well-being. That’s why, in addition to our MSP-covered medical appointments, we offer a wide range of allied health services, including physiotherapy, pelvic floor physiotherapy, massage therapy, dietitian services, and clinical counselling.

We also know that navigating employee and student benefits can sometimes be a daunting task. To make it easier for you, we provide direct billing to your insurance provider for several of our services. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through using your benefits effectively, so you can take full advantage of the healthcare options available to you.

Understanding Direct Billing

Direct billing is a convenient way for you to access our services while minimizing the financial burden. Here’s how it works:

1. Choosing a Service: First, decide on the service you’d like from CAYA Health Centre, such as physiotherapy, pelvic floor physiotherapy, massage therapy, or dietitian services.

2. Insurance Provider Verification: Before your appointment, it’s important to verify whether your insurance provider is included in our direct billing network. We accept a wide range of providers, but if you’re unsure, you can always contact us or check our list of accepted providers here:

  • Canada Life
  • Chambers of Commerce
  • Desjardins
  • Equitable Life
  • Manulife
  • Pacific Blue Cross
  • People Corporation
  • Sunlife
  • …and many more!

3. No Upfront Payments: When you come in for your appointment, you won’t need to pay for the service out of pocket. Instead, we’ll bill your insurance provider directly for the covered portion of the service. When completing your intake form on Jane, just add your insurance information and we will take it from there!

4. Pay Only the Remaining Balance: If there’s any portion of the service fee not covered by your insurance, you’ll only need to pay that balance. This minimizes the hassle of submitting claims and waiting for reimbursements.

What about Counselling?

Most employee benefits and student benefits cover clinical counselling too!

Unfortunately, most insurance companies do not offer direct billing for counselling but we will invoice you and you can claim it directly from your insurance provider. Your insurance provider will typically ask for your counsellor’s registration number, which will be included on your invoice.

Confidentiality: Rest assured that these services are confidential, and your privacy is protected. Your counsellor’s notes and the content of your sessions will not be disclosed to anyone without your permission and a signed consent form from you.

Tips for Claiming Benefits

While our direct billing service simplifies the process, there are some tips that can further help you make the most of your benefits:

  1. Understand Your Coverage: Familiarize yourself with your insurance policy and understand what it covers. Knowing the extent of your coverage can help you make informed decisions about your healthcare.
  2. Keep Records: Maintain a file for your healthcare-related documents, including invoices and receipts. Having these records readily available will streamline the claims process and ensure you have proof of your expenses. We also have these in our systems, if you ever need a record of your invoices just let us know.
  3. Stay Informed: Insurance policies can change, so it’s essential to stay informed about any updates to your plan. Be aware of any policy changes that might affect your benefits.
  4. Review Your Plan Annually: Take the time to review your plan annually, especially during open enrollment periods. This will help you assess your healthcare needs and make any necessary adjustments to your coverage. Also, look up when they run out, benefits typically don’t roll over and you lose them if you don’t use them!
  5. Ask Questions: If you’re uncertain about your benefits or how to claim them, don’t hesitate to reach out to your HR department or your insurance provider’s customer service. They can provide guidance and clarification.

Your health is your most valuable asset, and at CAYA Health Centre, we are committed to helping you prioritize it. Our services, including physiotherapy, pelvic floor physiotherapy, massage therapy, dietitian services, and clinical counselling, are designed to cater to your overall well-being.
